Yin and Yang originates in ancient Chinese philosophy and is used to describe two primal opposing but complementary forces found in all things in the universe. I have rendered Yin and Yang as symbolic interpretations. Yin, (the top canvas) is the darker element, - dark, feminine, and corresponds to the night and water; Yang, (the bottom canvas) is the brighter element - light, masculine, and corresponds to the day and fire. Yin and yang are complementary, interdependent opposites, neither of which can exist without the other. They espouse two halves that together complete wholeness.
